The rain started to fall halfway through the men here in France, but didn’t keep the best of the best from ending up on the podium. Steve Peat (Santa Cruz Syndicate, GBR) took home the win with a 2:07.14 in front of a massive crowd . not one of whom left when the skies opened up. Sam Hill was close on his heels, but just couldn’t touch the master who once again proved he still has it 1 week after becoming a father for the second time to a baby boy named George. Mick Hannah (GT, AUS) was third, adding to his success in Africa.
Peat was mobbed in the finish area by hundreds of French fans and barely made it to the podium. “I just tried to hold my lines up top and be smooth. It feels great to get one for George!”
For the women it was Sabrina Jonnier (Maxxis, FRA) winning for her home crowd with plenty of family and friends in attendance. Jonnier sprinted to the line to stop the clock at 2:28.57 and putting a huge 5 second margin on second place. Tracy Moseley (Trek, GBR) brought home second place and French woman Myriam Nicole was third.
“I was super upset when I left Africa. “Jonnier said. “I needed to go home. I went and spent 3 weeks with my family it was just awesome to win today in France. I lost my grandad last month, so i wanted to put a smile on my mom’s face. Last year was pretty crap for me, I'm back!”
