    South Africa World Cup

PIETERMARITZBURG, South Africa (transcendmagazine.com) -- The first practice day of 2009 is off to a sweltering start under the African sun. The 2.8km course here has a shuttle drive that takes you out onto the motorway and around town for a good 30 mins before shuttling you through sugar cane fields, a farm and then finally dropping riders off for a 10 minute walk down to the start gate.

We are slightly behind schedule as the uplift is running, but the track is not yet open. Some teams have already taken to shuttling themselves, instead of being crammed in the back of a rental box van and bouncing around in a sauna for half an hour.

Photos and updates in a couple of hours.
