US World Cup Cancelled

AIGLE, Switzerland (transcendmagazine.com) -- Canadian Cyclist is now reporting that their sources inside the UCI have tipped them off that the second North American World Cup round, originally scheduled for Anglefire New Mexico, has now been removed from the calendar.

Canadian Cyclist reports: "A UCI spokesperson has said the UCI has "closed the door" on a World Cup in the US in 2007. The original plans for a triple at the end of June at the Angel Fire Resort in December collapsed after organizers withdrew their bid saying sponsorship was not coming in.

The UCI with the assistance of USA cycling then began to explore a replacement venues in US soil. Park City (Utah) was an initial site put forward, but when that failed Lake Placid (NY) was the next site. Now that location too has failed to go forward. The UCI will now consult with the teams as to the best way to proceed."

Usually the UCI refers to rounds here as North American rounds, not US rounds. Whether or not this is significant or not remains to be seen.
